The WIRELESS PLANNING & COORDINATION (WPC) Wing of the Ministry of Communications, created in 1952, is the National Radio Regulatory Authority responsible for Frequency Spectrum Management, including licensing and caters for the needs of all wireless users (Government and Private) in the country. It exercises the statutory functions of the Central Government and issues licenses to establish, maintain and operate wireless stations. WPC is divided into major sections like Licensing and Regulation (LR), New Technology Group (NTG) and Standing Advisory Committee on Radio Frequency Allocation (SACFA). SACFA makes the recommendations on major frequency allocation issues, formulation of the frequency allocation plan, making recommendations on the various issues related to International Telecom Union (ITU), to sort out problems referred to the committee by various wireless users, Siting clearance of all wireless installations in the country etc.

Product Scope

Mandatory requirements for all wireless products (transceivers, transmitters and receivers) entering the Indian market. Note: only receivers do not need approval, for example GPS products. Product examples: wireless bluetooth watches, wireless water heaters, wireless home appliances, wireless car radio, radio frequency identification (RFID) tags and readers, wireless medical products used for patient profiling laptops, mobile phones, wireless mouse and keypads, remote key fob entry, wireless headphones and/or earplugs, wireless music players, wireless remotes, and any other radio frequency modules

WPC issues different types of Licenses. We assist our customers for:

REGULATIONS

• Type approval is required for the import of wireless equipment for use in the existing allocated frequency bands. 
• New Frequency Allocation is required for use of wireless equipment in a new frequency band that needs to be allocated. 
• Online filing of all types of license applications is mandatory, followed by hard copy submission of the license application. 

GUIDELINES

• A local representative is required. 
• Manufacturers need to submit an application with essential documents and test reports to the respective agencies. 
• Testing for certain products must be performed by in-country test laboratories.
