Argentina Market Access for Safety Device

The Resolution on Essential Safety Requirements for Low-Voltage Electrical Equipment came in force on May 27, 2018 in Argentina.

The Resolution ensures that electrical equipment within certain voltage limits provides a high level of protection to the health and safety of people, their pets, and property.

The Resolution applies to electrical equipment operating with an input or output voltage of:    

• 50 and 1000 VAC

• 75 and 1500 VDC

The Resolution also applies to sources, chargers, and transformers that operate with the input and/or output voltage mentioned above.

From January 1, 2020, safety certification will be carried out in accordance with System №5 (conformity mark) or System №7 (batch certification) where applicable. However, an Implementing Authority may permit safety certification of a product to be carried out using System №4, where justified by the particular characteristics of the electrical equipment.

System №4 (type certification), System №5 (conformity mark) and System №7 (batch certification) may be used until December 31, 2019 in accordance with Article 1 of the Resolution №197/2004.

REGULATIONS

• In accordance with Resolution 92/98, products to be sold in the domestic market are required to be certified by an organisation accredited by the Argentine Accreditation Body and recognised by the national authorities.
• The mandatory S-Mark signifies that a product has been certified by an organisation accredited and authorised by the authorities.
• Compliance with IEC standards.

GUIDELINES

• Manufacturers need to apply to IRAM and submit essential documents for safety approval.
• Testing should be conducted to IEC standards for electrical and electronics equipment.
• Initial and subsequent annual factory inspections are required for safety certification.

APPLICABLE PRODUCT CATEGORIES

• All devices, apparatus or electrical materials intended to be used by consumers rated between 50V and 1000Vac or 1500Vdc require mandatory certification.
