Thailand Market Access for Safety Approval

The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) is the authority under the Ministry of Industry responsible for certification, laboratory accreditation, product registration, market surveillance, and the development of national standards. 

The TISI develops both mandatory and voluntary Thai Industrial Standards (TISs). The product certification scheme requires products meet the appropriate standards but also requires manufacturers to improve the quality assurance system, to maintain product and standard compliance, and undergo product certification procedures. At the same time, the TISI carries out product registration as a kind provisional certification for products for which standards have not been established. 

The product certification schemes of TISI consists of 2 types with different certification marks: a voluntary certification mark and a mandatory certification mark:

Categories of products subject to mandatory standards and the mandatory certification mark:

• Lighting products

• Air conditioners

• Fluorescent lamps and ballast for fluorescent lamps;

• Electric Household appliances such as: electric stoves, open type heating elements, microwave ovens, electric fans, etc. 

• Refrigerators 

• Audio products

• Washing machines

• Switches, circuit breaker

• Water heaters

• etc.

Applicants should have products tested at a TISI designated testing laboratory or a laboratory which has been approved by the Industrial Product Standards Council. The TISI will perform the factory inspection. A license will be issued by the TISI after assessment of the quality control system of the manufacturers and evaluation of products.

Additionally, foreign manufacturers must be registered in the List of Registered Foreign Manufacturers in TISI's database.
